  • Steve Komphela's beef with Elasto Kapowehzaseems far from over
  • Komphela had issues with Moroka Swallows even before his sacking
  • His talk about the difficulties he encountered has raised a dispute

Former Moroka Swallows head coach, Steve Komphela, has countered claims made by the club's team manager, Elasto Kapowehza, regarding his alleged role in inciting a player strike last year.

The dispute arose following Komphela's recent disclosures about the difficulties he encountered during his tenure at the club.

Kapowehza, in response, accused the coach of instigating the players' strike in December 2023, just ten days before their scheduled match against SuperSport United.

Due to the strike, Swallows terminated contracts with several players involved in the protest.

The team missed subsequent league fixtures against Golden Arrows and Mamelodi Sundowns, prompting Premier Soccer League (PSL) disciplinary action, including fines and point deductions.

The club sacked Komphela on February 19.

“I’m telling you anybody in their life seeking to race and compete with a liar you are in trouble. Elasto is a perpetual liar. It’s just sad and I hear what you are saying. You are trying to say “an official of the club” and all that,” said Komphela, as quoted by iDiski Times.

He stressed his commitment to integrity and accountability in sports management, prioritising clarity and adherence to standards.

Even before his sacking, Komphela had issues with the club, disclosing he was never informed about the team’s return to training.

He was a notable absentee from the Dube Birds’ first session back from the break and the saga around player disputes over December salaries.

“Elasto, the team manager is in charge and communicates with players and never with me. I know nothing about all the decisions taken from 27 December. The last time I heard from the front office was when Mr Xulu communicated with me on 12 January that he was instructed to postpone the pre-season resumption that was scheduled for 15 January,” he said, as reported on SABC Sport.

Jali was embroiled in a dispute with Swallows stemming from the club's failure to fulfil scheduled PSL fixtures.

The 33-year-old midfielder reassured that he is financially stable.
