Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi scored for Fulham on Saturday at Old Trafford to give the Cottagers a rare win against Manchester United away from home.

The two are the latest Nigerians to score at the Theatre of Dreams, which is a difficult place to win for most teams in the Premier League.

Many Nigerian footballers have played in the Premier League in the last few decades, but few have managed to find the net at Old Trafford.

More than 40 Nigerian stars have played in the Premier League. Efan Ekoku was the first Nigerian to play in the English top flight. He made his first appearance for Norwich City in April 1993.

Nwankwo Kanu won two Premier League titles with Arsenal in the early 2000s and is regarded as the greatest Nigerian to play in the Premier League.

Jay-Jay Okocha is also one of the best Nigerians to play in the league. However, the two icons didn't score the most goals or make the most appearances.

No Nigerian has made more appearances in the league than Newcastle United legend Shola Ameobi. He played 297 times in the league, with Kanu second with 273.

Yakubu Aiyegbeni has the most goals for a Nigerian in the Premier League with 97. He Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, Everton and Blackburn Rovers, and scored a goal at Old Trafford.

John Obi Mikel, Joseph Yobo, Daniel Amokachi, Celestine Babayaro, Peter Osaze Odemwingie, and Victor Moses are other legendary Nigerians who played in the Premier League.

Nigerians who have scored at Old Trafford

Alex Iwobi

The former Arsenal star has faced the Red Devils 16 times in his career. He has won three times, lost 10, and drawn three. He has two goals against the 13-time Premier League champions. His first goal came when he was an Everton player in the 2022/23 season. His other goal came on Saturday, February 24, when Fulham won at Old Trafford for the first time since 2003.

Calvin Bassey

Bassey is playing in his first Premier League season. He scored Fulham's first goal against Man United on Saturday, February 24, in their 2-1 win.

Yakubu Aiyegbeni

Yakubu played nine seasons in the Premier League and was a reliable goalscorer. he scored against all the current 'big six' teams. The Nigerian legend scored four goals against the Red Devils in 14 appearances. In the 14 games, he won four times and lost seven.

Three of his four goals against Man United came in the Premier League, and he scored twice at Old Trafford on Alex Ferguson's 70th birthday, when Blackburn Rovers registered a famous 3-2 win on December 31, 2011, per BBC.

Obafemi Martins

Martins made his name at Newcastle United after a successful spell at Inter Milan. He scored 28 goals in England in 92 appearances.

He faced Man United four times and scored one. The former Inter star scored at Old Trafford in the 2008/09 season in a 1-1 draw.

Kelechi Iheanacho

The Leicester City striker has faced Man United 12 times. He's won four, drawn two, and lost six. The 27-year-old has scored four times against the three-time European champions.

Two of his goals came at Old Trafford. The first striker was when he was Manchester City player in the 2016/16 season, a game his team won 2-1. he also scored for the Foxes in their 1-1 draw in the 2021/22 season.

Nwankwo Kanu

The legendary forward scored some iconic goals in the Premier League. His only goal at Olde Trafford came in the fourth round of the FA Cup in 2007 when he wore the colours of Portsmouth. With Alex Ferguson's side leading 2-0 thanks to Wayne Rooney's double, Kanu scored a consolation late in the game to exit the competition.

Taiwo Awoniyi

Nottingham Forest signed the Nigerian striker in 2022 from Union Berlin. he has faced Man United three times and scored once. His only goal came in the 2023/24 season, where Forest blew a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2.

Odion Ighalo

The Al-Wehda striker played 23 times for Man United and scored five goals. he scored one of his five goals at Old Trafford in 2020.

2023 African Footballer of the Year, Osimhen, moved to Italy in 2020 and is easily the best Nigerian to play in Italy's league. Obafemi Martins and Simeon 'Simy' Nwankwo also made the list.
