Alex Iwobi has hailed Fulham’s famous victory against Manchester United as a step in the right direction following their impressive 2-1 win at Old Trafford on Saturday, February 24.

The 27-year-old midfielder struck the winner in the 97th minute from a swift counter-attack move, placing his shot at the bottom-left corner, leaving Andre Onana frozen in goal.

According to Daily Post, Iwobi hopes the victory will kick off Fulham’s resurgence in the league while describing his feeling as over the moon after netting the winner for Marcos Silver’s team.

“I’m over the moon right now, to win at Old Trafford in the last minute is crazy, there’s no better feeling.
“We feel like we performed really well, we’ve been performing well recently, and today is a step in the right direction and hopefully, we can kick on from there.”

The goal against Man United was Iwobi’s fourth of the season since joining Fulham in the summer from Merseyside club Everton.

Silva hails Iwobi and Bassey

Meanwhile, Fulham manager Marco Silva has praised the Super Eagles duo of Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey, who scored the goals that propelled his team to a historic 2-1 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford, Soccernet reports.

After a strong spell for the Whites, Bassey put the visitors ahead with a solid, right-footed finish in the 65th minute. It was the Nigerian defender's first goal for the club since signing from Ajax last summer.

Iwobi produced an expert finish past goalkeeper Onana deep into stoppage time after Harry Maguire had drawn Manchester United level temporarily in the 89th minute.

Bassey, Iwobi sink Manchester United

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi were Fulham's heroes as they defeated Manchester United in front of a sell-out crowd at Old Trafford.

The Nigerian stars recently returned from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where they were disappointed to lose 2-1 in the final to host Ivory Coast following an excellent competition.

It was head coach Marco Silva's first Premier League win away at Old Trafford, and he did so with a thrilling late winner.
