- Riyad Mahrez joined the moving Saudi Arabia train last summer
- He left Manchester City after five years and joined Al-Ahli
- The Algerian reflected on the move with his wife in a series
Riyad Mahrez’s looks do not give him away as a blunt person, but he actually is, going by the conversation he had with his wife about his move to Saudi Arabia.
Mahrez was one of the top European football stars poached by Saudi Arabia in a mass recruitment last summer when he joined Al-Ahli from Manchester City.
Per Goal, City received a fee of £30 million, and the winger will earn a whopping £45mil salary per annum after signing a four-year contract with the Jeddah-based club.
The move was difficult for the winger’s wife, Taylor Ward, due to a myriad of factors, but the footballer embraced it from the get-go.

Mahrez reflects on Saudi move
In a conversation on the Married to the Game documentary on Amazon Prime Video Sport, Mahrez and Ward were in a conversation about their first few months in the country.
While she was making a case for Manchester being her home and how the culture shock in the Middle East affects her social life, the Algerian was not fazed.
She claimed her husband will have 30 new friends in her new teammates while she will be sitting at home on her own, and the former Leicester City star said he is her only friend.
“God made it easier for me. I thought it was going to be more difficult than that, Taylor, to be fair,” he said.
“It’s part of the game, innit?” he added.
Per Daily Star, one of her biggest shocks was learning that only gents are allowed in the pool at the hotel where they lived.
