Liverpool are sweating on the fitness and availability of Mohamed Salah ahead of England’s League Cup final against Chelsea, scheduled for Wembley Stadium on Sunday, February 25.
The 31-year-old Egyptian forward, who had only returned to full fitness after one month, suffered muscle fatigue and did not play in the Reds midweek win over Luton. He had injured his hamstring during the African Cup of Nations.
According to the Daily Mirror, Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders said on Friday that Salah, alongside Darwin Nunez and Dominik Szoboszlai, will need a late fitness test to ascertain his availability for the final against Chelsea.
"We still have two days - so today's session and tomorrow's - and at the last minute we will check if they can be there," Lijnders told a press conference."

Liverpool, who are in contention for the Premier League title with Manchester City and Arsenal, are bidding to win their first title of the season against Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Salah’s fitness issues this season have forced Liverpool to consider signing reinforcements ahead of next season, with Wolves forward Pedro Neto top on their list of targets, Caught Offside reports.
Wolves have slammed a whopping £80million on Neto as the Premier League club wishes to chase his suitors away in the summer, although the Reds remain keen on signing him.
In all competitions, the 23-year-old has three goals and ten assists, and in four of his previous five games, he has directly contributed to a goal.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Liverpool could be without Salah for the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea as the Egyptian is presently being assessed following a minor injury.
Jurgen Klopp disclosed that Liverpool's medical staff was watching the 31-year-old forward after he felt an issue in the same place as his previous hamstring injury.
Salah was sidelined for four weeks after injuring his hamstring in the AFCON 2023 group stage game against Ghana, forcing him to return to England while the tournament was in Ivory Coast.
