The 63-year-old, who guided the national team to its first final at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), sees his current contract expire on February 29.
Following the team's impressive performance at the tournament, many Nigerian football fans and stakeholders are urging the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to extend the Portuguese coach's contract.
This is especially important considering that the Algerian Football Federation are actively pursuing Peseiro and offering him a contract worth an estimated ₤208,000 per month.

Nonetheless, amidst the speculation about Peseiro's future, Super Eagles vice-captain, William Troost-Ekong, has shared his thoughts on the coach's contract situation.
Troost-Ekong on Peseiro’s contract
During an interview with CNN World Sport, the 30-year-old shared his views on the manager's future.
When asked if he would like to see Peseiro remain as Nigeria's coach despite rumours of him moving to the Algeria job, the PAOK Thessaloniki star expressed his support:
"Yes. I believe the players are happy with him. Reaching the final is a significant achievement and something we can build on.
Regarding his plans, I tried to inquire before we left, and he said he would call me. I am just as in the dark as you guys, but I think all the players would be pleased to see him continue with the national team."
