Former Ivory Coast coach, Jean-Louis Gasset, is set to replace Gennaro Gattuso as head coach of Olympique Marseille.

Gattuso was relieved of his duties following Marseille's defeat to Brest last Sunday. The former AC Milan midfielder endured a difficult time in France, winning just a game in eight matches, as reported by Football Italia.

Meanwhile, Gasset, who was sent home halfway through the Africa Cup of Nations, will make a quick return to management.

According to Wiw Sport, the veteran manager will lead the team in the coming days after agreeing to take over as manager of the French giants.

He is expected to be in the dugout for the Round of 32 second-leg clash against Shakhtar Donetsk on Thursday.

Marseille sits ninth on the Ligue 1 table, eight points from the drop zone, forcing the club to decide on the technical direction of the team.

Ivory Coast sack Jean-Louis Gasset

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that French tactician Gasset was sacked as Ivory Coast coach midway through the Africa Cup of Nations.

Gasset was dismissed after the team's 4-0 defeat to Equatorial Guinea in the final Group A game at the Stade Alassane Ouattara in Ebimpe.

Emerse Fae, who took over from the French coach, went on to win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after leading the West African nation in the elimination stages.

Gasset misses out on AFCON medal

Sports Brief also reported that French coach Jean-Louis Gasset did not receive a medal following Ivory Coast's Africa Cup of Nations triumph.

Gasset started the journey with the Elephants but was sacked after the first round with Ivory Coast on the brink of elimination.

The Ivorian FA decided to part ways with the gaffer following a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Equatorial Guinea in the final Group A game.
