  • Cavin Johnson wants Kaizer Chiefs players to step up their game
  • AmaKhosi were held to a barren draw with Royal AM in the PSL
  • The club is sixth with 25 points from 17 DSTv Premiership games

Kaizer Chiefs coach, Cavin Johnson, is calling for a step up in performance from his players following a lacklustre 0-0 draw against relegation-threatened Royal AM at Harry Gwala Stadium on Sunday, February 18.

Despite dominating the match and having several clear-cut opportunities, Chiefs failed to capitalize, missing chances that could have secured them a comfortable victory and a spot in the top five of the DStv Premiership.

Johnson expressed his disappointment, saying it was not the result they wanted after the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 break.

Highlighting the missed chances, particularly against the opposition goalkeeper, the interim manager stressed the need for improvement. The interim manager stressed the players needed to play a unique brand of football due to the status of the club.

“We need to be better on the ball because we are not just a normal team. We are a special team, and I want us to play special football. We go away with the draw, and we will take the point, but we need to do better," urged Johnson, as quoted by Times Live.

Currently sitting in sixth place with 25 points from 17 Premier Soccer League (PSL) matches, AmaKhosi trail league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by 14 points.

Chiefs bolster squad with young blood

In other Chiefs news, reports suggest that 15-year-old striker Neo Bohloko is on the verge of being promoted to the first team, continuing the club’s tradition of nurturing young talent.

Despite his youth, sources indicate that both coaching staff believe he is ready for the challenge of senior-level football.

“The club is working on giving him the chance to train with the first team, but at the moment, the DDC team want him to help their team fight for honours in their league,” said a source, as reported by SNL24.

Chiefs will shift their focus to the Nedbank Cup as they face Milford FC in the last 32 at FNB Stadium on Sunday.

Pitso Mosimane's son shines for Kaizer Chiefs youth

Sports Brief previously reported on Reatlegile Mosimane's standout performance for the Kaizer Chiefs Under-13 team in the Gauteng Development League.

Reatlegile scored a goal and provided two assists against Kathorus Hyper Academy, contributing to the team's 4-0 victory.

This isn't the first time he has captured attention in the football world.
