  • Hellas Verona held Italian giant's, Juventus, to a draw in round 25 of the Serie A
  • Marco Baroni’s side secured the draw courtesy of midfielder, Michael Folorunsho
  • The Nigeria-eligible star scored a Zinedine Zidane-esque goal during the fixture

Nigerian players based abroad continue to excel for their respective clubs.

While Elijah Adebayo, who recently expressed his desire to represent the Super Eagles, continues to impress in the Premier League with newcomers, Luton Town, another midfielder of Nigerian descent is making waves in the Italian Serie A.

Following his loan transfer from defending champions, Napoli to Hellas Verona, midfielder, Michael Folorunsho, has continued to make a name for himself at the Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi.

The 26-year-old central midfielder's prowess was on display against Scudetto-chasing Juventus. The Napoli loanee took matters into his own hands, assisting a Tijjani Noslin goal and scoring a goal-of-the-season contender for the relegation-threatened side in their 2-2 draw.

The versatile midfielder, who was on loan last season with Serie B side Bari, appeared determined to prove his qualities against one of the league's most historical teams, scoring a stunning goal reminiscent of Zinedine Zidane's volley in the 2002 UEFA Champions League final against Bayer Leverkusen.

As captured by Centre Goal, Folorunsho's sublime volley from the edge of the box, off a corner from Tomas Suslov, left goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny with no chance. This incredible goal has generated a lot of buzz in Italian football circles and sparked a flurry of reactions from fans.

Fan's reaction to Folorunsho’s strike

@DanielO15271366, seemingly in disbelief, exclaimed,

"Wow! What type of goal is that?"

@marcoben228, applauding enthusiastically, praised,

"What a classic goal 🔥🔥🔥"

@dlifeof_jay, emphasising the midfielder's potential for the Nigerian national team, remarked,

"He should definitely join the national team!"

@iamlarrygaga added,

"That was a cracker 🍘🍘🍘🍘."

@DibzManuel, amazed by the quality of goals in 2024, predicted,

"I think we'll see more than one player winning the Puskas Award this year. There's more to come."

As Folorunsho continues to shine in the Italian league, it remains to be seen whether he will receive a call-up from the Super Eagles in the next international window.

Hunt names Nigeria’s best player at AFCON

Sports Brief in another report stated that SuperSport United coach, Gavin Hunt, has ignored William Troost-Ekong in naming Nigeria’s best player at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The 59-year-old stressed the impact of combative midfielder Frank Onyeka in the Super Eagles' success at the AFCON, ahead of the veteran defender.
