The traditional monarch of Egbema Kingdom in Rivers State, His Royal Majesty Nzeobi Evaritus Amida, has granted a chieftaincy title to Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali.
The Chippa United goalie was outstanding for the Super Eagles throughout the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, keeping four clean sheets en route to the final of the competition in Ivory Coast.
According to the Daily Post, Nwabali was conferred with “The Pride of Egbema Kingdom,” the highest honour given to an individual in his hometown in Rivers State, Nigeria.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper had previously been rewarded with N20 million by the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara and also bestowed with the honour of Distinguished Service Star of River State.

Nwabali's exploits also earned him the National Award of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) from Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu during the presidential welcome for Super Eagles at the State House in Abuja.
Nwabali responds to Europe move
Meanwhile, Nwabali has reiterated he is not in a hurry to leave Chippa United after numerous calls for him to leave the South African club for Europe this summer, GOAL reports.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper made a name for himself in the 2023 AFCON finals with his stellar performances, particularly against South Africa in the semi-finals. His efforts helped Nigeria reach the final, where they narrowly lost 2-1 against the hosts.
Some teams in Europe and Saudi Arabia want Nwabali to strengthen their goalkeeping department, while the Chippa United star has been linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs, who have recently not been stable in that department.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Super Eagles goalkeeper, Nwabali, received a hero's welcome in his village in Rivers State, Nigeria, as thousands of fans came out to welcome him.
In a video posted online, hundreds of fans can be seen running towards the venue for his reception in Port Harcourt as the convoy of cars can also be seen going to welcome their star.
Nwabali, back from the AFCON after helping Nigeria win the silver medal in Ivory Coast, dressed in a traditional outfit, was spotted walking on the red carpet as fans cheered at full volume.
