  • Harry Kane joined Bayern Munich with the hope of winning a trophy
  • He could end the season trophyless as the chances reduce day by day
  • The striker is not the only top player in danger of a failed season

The most outstanding footballers in the world have loaded trophy cabinets, which include team and individual accolades, and each season they fail to win is seen as a failure.

Harry Kane is an exception in world football of a great player but has not been lucky to win a trophy in his career despite scoring many goals for club and country.

Sports Brief looks at six top players who could go trophyless this season, as first analysed by Planet Football.

Top players who could go trophyless

1. Harry Kane

One of football’s greatest strikers but has no trophy to show for it. He left Tottenham for Bayern Munich to win a trophy. The German champions lost the Super Cup final on his debut and are out of the DFB Pokal. They are five points behind Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga and lost the first leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16.

If Bayern goes trophyless, it will be their first trophyless season in 12 years and would confirm Harry Kane as the cursed one.

2. Son Heung-min

Kane's former teammate at Tottenham is set to have another trophyless season. Spurs are out of all cup competitions and are unlikely to win the Premier League despite the resurgence under Ange Postecoglou. He was eliminated in the Asian Cup semi-final with South Korea.

3. Robert Lewandowski

The Polish striker’s last trophyless season was in the 2012/13 season. At Barcelona this year, another one could be on the horizon, with Xavi's men already lost the Super Cup to Real Madrid and are out of the Copa del Rey. They must win one of La Liga or Champions League to avert the impending failure.

4. Karim Benzema

Benzema was the reigning Ballon d'Or winner before he joined Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia. The club won the league and cup double last year, but their season has derailed this year, with the French striker having a major disruptive influence. Per Mirror UK, he left training last week after refusing Marcelo Gallardo’s order.

5. Antoine Griezmann

Unless Atletico Madrid overturn the first leg 1-0 loss to Athletic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey or miraculously win the Champions League, Antoine Griezmann will go trophyless. He has contributed 25 goals and assists this season and became the club's all-time top scorer.

6. Victor Osimhen

Reigning African Footballer of the Year, Victor Osimhen is set to go trophyless this season. He lost the AFCON final with Nigeria. Napoli are ninth in Serie A under Walter Mazzari and, per Opta Analyst, have a 1.1% chance of winning the UCL.

Kane accused of ruining Bayern

Sports Brief reported on fans accusing Kane of turning Bayern to Tottenham, with the Bavarian giants looking very likely to go trophyless this season, particularly losing their Bundesliga streak.

Though the English forward has scored 24 league goals, the team are second on the league table, five points behind leaders Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen.
