Chaine started the 2023/24 season as Jose Riveiro’s first-choice goalkeeper, but an injury during a Carling Knockout Last-16 clash with Cape Town Spurs saw him on the sidelines.

However, as a result of the break due to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, the impressive goalkeeper has recovered and will be available for the massive encounter.

Returnee, Tshegofaso Mabasa, as well as new signings Thabiso Lebitso and Thalente Mbatha, could also feature for the Buccaneers against Sundowns.

iDiski Times reports that Azola Matrose could finally make his league debut for the team after making several appearances for the club’s DStv Diski Challenge side.

The club said in a statement:

“Thabiso Lebitso and Thalente Mbatha will both be eyeing debut appearances in Pirates colours, while striker Tshegofatso Mabasa has a chance to feature once again for the Club after his return from loan.
“Also nearing his First-Team debut for the Buccaneers is attacking midfielder Azola Matrose, who is fully fit after his spell on the sidelines, while goalkeeper Sipho Chaine is also among those back in full training following an injury layoff.”

Lorch speaks ahead of clash with Pirates

Sports Brief earlier reported that Mamelodi Sundowns face Orlando Pirates on Saturday, February 17, in an eagerly anticipated showdown.

New Masandawana attacker Thembinkosi Lorch could make his debut against his former team. The forward has spoken about potentially facing his former side.

Lorch completed the high-profile switch to Sundowns late last month. The transfer shocked many fans, who will have to get used to seeing the attacker wearing the Tshwane giants' jersey.
