Reports from ESPN indicate Jose Becker drowned in a dam in Southern Brazil.

The late was reportedly swimming in a dam near his holiday home in Lavras do Sul, which is near the town of Rincao do Inferno.

He was declared missing on Wednesday, February 24 , around 1700hrs and local authorities immediately began the search for the 57-year-old.

The Fire Department of Cacapava do Sul assisted in the frantic search which resulted in the body being found at around 11:59p.m.

Authorities have since confirmed that there was no foul play detected when his body was found.

Brazilian club Internacional, the place where Alisson began his professional career, have since tweeted their condolence message to the keeper and his brother Muriel.

"It is with great sadness that we received the news of Jose Agostinho Becker's death, the father of our ex-goalkeepers Alisson and Muriel," a statement from Internacional read.

Other Brazilian clubs including Fluminese and Sao Paulo have also shared condolence messages to the keeper, who joined Internacional back in 2002 and progressed through the youth system.

A difficult few weeks for Alisson

Prior to news of his father’s death, Alisson was already struggling professionally as he made some high-profile mistakes on the pitch which cost his team Liverpool some games.

Manager Jurgen Klopp initially played down the mistakes against Manchester City but refused to take responsibility for Alisson’s mistakes in the defeat to Leicester City.

Alisson is now expected to miss his side’s next few games as he will most likely be pardoned for “personal reasons”.

This is the second time in only a matter of weeks that a person linked to Liverpool is suffering a tragedy.

On February 10, Klopp revealed he lost his mom and was distraught at the fact that he was unable to attend her funeral.
