Nkosingiphile ‘Mshini’ Ngcobo: Kaizer Chiefs Star Discloses How He Handles Pressure at AmaKhosi
FootballKaizer Chiefs: Cavin Johnson’s 3 Most Important Questions Ahead of DStv Premiership Restart
- Kaizer Chiefs resume their DStv Premiership campaign with a trip to Royal AM
- Cavin Johnson had a full squad of players to work with during the AFCON break
- Amakhosi's coach has a few selection headaches due to a certain returning star
A true reflection of Kaizer Chiefs' progress will be seen in the coming weeks.
Cavin Johnson's honeymoon period is in the past and the interim coach has had several weeks to refine the ideas he imparted upon the players in 2023.
Chiefs are just five points off the second CAF Champions League qualification place, adding plenty of motivation for the players to have a strong second half of the season.
Johnson will have a few riddles to solve and Sports Brief outlines the three biggest questions he may need to answer.

3 Key Kaizer Chiefs questions
1. Itumeleng Khune or Bruce Bvuma?
The celebrity goalkeeper's suspension is over and Johnson must decide if he will return Itumeleng Khune to the first team, or continue with Bruce Bvuma.
Bvuma has four clean sheets this season and the 28-year-old was rewarded with a new contract in early February, as per KaizerChiefs.
Khune's contract expires at the end of the season and this was meant to be a farewell tour. Amakhosi fans will want to see Khune in goal again, so will Johnson buckle or stick with the loyal and patient Bvuma?
2. Is Yusuf Maart still the leader?
With senior members of the squad left on the fringes for various reasons, Yusuf Maart stepped up to captain the squad.
The new role gave the midfielder a boost, which showed in some impressive performances at the back end of 2023. He takes the captaincy to heart, as displayed in his comments made to SowetanLive:
Daine Klate and Moeneeb Josephs imparting their winning mentality at NB La Masia
Football"As a captain, I need to put in more effort and show more desire. [I must] uplift everyone around me who’s feeling down. I am trying to lead where I can and other players are also leading where they can.”
3. Does Keagan Dolly have a future at Chiefs?
Keagan Dolly's contract expires at the end of the season and on current form seems surplus to requirements. The 31-year-old has scored in 10 months and has missed much of the season through injury.
Amakhosi signed Ranga Chivaviro and Jasond Gonzalez at the beginning of the season, while their other attacking options include Ashley du Preez, Pule Mmodi and Christian Saile.
Dolly is reportedly on a massive contract at Chiefs, with KickOff claiming any new deal will be greatly reduced. Will Johnson give Dolly a chance to earn himself an extension or does he have one foot out of the door?
