Sebastien Haller received a kingly welcome following his return to Borussia Dortmund as an Africa Cup of Nations winner.

The Dortmund forward scored the winner as Ivory Coast came from a goal down to beat Nigeria and win their third AFCON title.

Having missed the opening round of games due to injury, the 29-year-old proved important for the Elephants, netting the winner in the semi-final against DR Congo and the decisive goal against the Super Eagles.

In a video shared on social media, Haller's Dortmund teammates celebrated the forward as he received a rapturous welcome from the club. An excited Haller danced with his teammates amid huge applause.

The former West Ham United attacker has struggled with injuries this season, limiting his role at the German outfit. There were reports Fulham were pushing for a last-minute deal for the striker in the winter transfer window.

However, Haller refused as he stayed focused on the Africa Cup of Nations in his home country.

Haller's incredible comeback to football has been remarkable after defeating cancer exactly a year ago, as reported by the BBC.

The French-born striker is expected to return to action for Dortmund this weekend when they travel to Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga on Saturday. Dortmund will also face PSV in the UEFA Champions League next Tuesday.

Haller's incredible journey from cancer to AFCON

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Sebastien Haller defeated cancer to return to football and become a hero in Ivory Coast after scoring the winner at the Africa Cup of Nations final.

The Borussia Dortmund forward’s goal against Nigeria in the 2023 AFCON final was the climax of his inspirational story that has seen him battle from being diagnosed with cancer to becoming an African champion.

Haller's battle with cancer began 18 months before the start of the AFCON when he was diagnosed with testicular cancer in July 2022, thereby ruling him out of action for over a year, Al Jazeera reports.
