  • Teboho Mokoena's agent has pleaded with SA clubs to allow players to chase their dreams

  • Glyn Binkin hopes clubs will allow the players to play football at the highest levels abroad

South Africa's impressive run at the Africa Cup of Nations 2023 (AFCON) has turned heads across Europe.

Reports suggest that European clubs are lining up to snap up some impressive Bafana Bafana stars.

Teboho Mokoena's agent, Glyn Binkin, has urged South African clubs to be reasonable and allow players to chase their dreams abroad should concrete offers arise.

The recently concluded tournament, hailed by some as the best, saw Bafana secure a historic third-place finish, their best performance in 24 years.

This success has drawn attention to individual talents like Mokoena, Khuliso Mudau, and Evidence Makgopa.

Binkin acknowledged the speculation surrounding players but stressed their existing contracts with their local clubs.

“Any interested party will have to engage with the respective clubs to see if they will be prepared to sell the players. We are hopeful that the clubs will be reasonable and allow the players to play football at the highest levels abroad. We are sure the common sense will prevail,” he said, as quoted by The South African.

Mokoena, in particular, has reportedly garnered significant attention from clubs like AS Monaco, AFC Bournemouth, and even Egyptian giants Al Ahly. However, Binkin reiterated that the 27-year-old midfielder's contract with Mamelodi Sundowns runs until 2026.

Teboho, upon the team's arrival at the OR Tambo International. Airport on Wednesday, February 14, was received by dignitaries and political leaders, some of whom he was not shy to declare support for.

Clubs didn't just notice the midfielder’s impressive performance. He, along with teammate and captain, Ronwen Williams, were named in the AFCON 2023 Team of the Tournament, as reported by SuperSport.

The inclusion of Williams, who made history by saving four penalties in a single match, and Mokoena in the Best XI reflects South Africa's remarkable journey in Abidjan. Their achievement serves as a springboard for individual players, and Binkin's call could be instrumental in their pursuit of European dreams.

Mokoena performs Cristiano’s goal celebration vs Morocco

Sports Brief previously reported when Mokoena scored a freekick against Morocco and performed Cristiano Ronaldo's iconic goal celebration.

Bafana emerged as 2-0 winners over the World Cup semi-finalists, who were reduced to 10 men after the dismissal of Sofyan Amrabat.

Second-half goals from Evidence Makgopa and Mokoena were enough to send South African fans into a frenzy as they set up a quarter-final clash against Cape Verde.
