  • Four Premier League players are ready to snub England for Nigeria
  • Bournemouth star Dominic Solanke is on top of the list of players
  • The Super Eagles have become attractive to England-born players

The Super Eagles of Nigeria could have four new English-born players represent the country before the next Africa Cup of Nations following the team's attractiveness to the Premier League stars.

Seven England-born players represented Nigeria at the just concluded 2023 AFCON, where the team won a silver medal following their defeat in the final to hosts Ivory Coast.

Amongst the players in the Super Eagles team include Alex Iwobi, Semi Ajayi, Ademola Lookman, Ola Aina, Calvin Bassey, and Bright Osayi-Samuel, who were all born in England.

All players were eligible to play for the Three Lions or even represented England at youth level before switching their nationalities to play for the Super Eagles, Own Goal reports.

Here, Sports Brief looks at the four Premier League players likely to follow in the footsteps of their predecessors and dump England for the Super Eagles before the next AFCON in Morocco.

EPL stars ready to join Super Eagles

1. Dominic Solanke (AFC Bournemouth)

Dominic Solanke is having the best season of his career so far in the English Premier League with Bournemouth.

The striker, who has represented England at all youth levels, has scored a whopping 13 goals in 23 games for the EPL side this campaign.

Solanke is ready to switch from England to play for the Super Eagles before the end of 2024 if he does not make the Three Lions team to the Euros at the end of the season.

2. Gabriel Osho (Luton Town)

Gabriel Jeremiah Adedayo Osho (born 14 August 1998) is an English professional football defender for Premier League club Luton Town. Osho is primarily a centre-back, but he can also play fullback, Wikipedia reports.

Born in England, Osho is of Nigerian descent, and he is reportedly interested in playing for the Super Eagles if he gets an invite to the national team.

3. Elijah Adebayo (Luton Town)

Elijah Anuoluwapo Oluwaferanmi Oluwatomi Oluwalana Ayomikulehin Adebayo is one of the England-born players who could be representing Nigeria at the 2024 AFCON in Morocco.

Adebayo was born in England in 1998 to Nigerian parents. The Luton Town forward is one of the few players interested in switching his nationality to play for the Super Eagles.

4. Tim Iroegbunam (Aston Villa)

Tim Iroegbunam was born in England to Nigerian parents but has already represented the Three Lions at all youth levels in his growing career.

Iroegbunam attended the West Bromwich Albion and Aston Villa academies. He spent the 2022-23 season on loan at EFL Championship club Queens Park Rangers, and he has represented England at under-19 and under-20 levels, winning the UEFA European Under-19 Championship with the former in 2022.

Super Eagles get a rousing welcome

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that the Super Eagles squad has returned to Nigeria to a rousing welcome after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations hosted by Ivory Coast.

The three-time AFCON winners finished second in the competition after losing 2-1 against the host nation in the final.
