As the tournament heats up, Sports Brief looks at the five most valuable teams remaining in the competition and their star players.

Most valuable squads in the Champions League

Manchester City

The defending champions are at the top of the list with a market value of €1,26 billion.

The English Premier League champions are also favourites to retain the title, and their stacked 22-man squad is more than capable of delivering.

City will take on Danish side, FC Copenhagen, in the first leg of their round of 16 tie tonight (Tuesday, February 13).

Most Valuable Players:

Erling Haaland - €180 million

Phil Foden - €100 million

Rodri - €100 million

Arsenal

The Gunners are not generally a side you would consider as one of Europe's big-money teams, but they have assembled a team worth €1,12 billion.

Mikel Arteta is building a squad that is already challenging for the English Premier League title and they are still in the running for the Champions League crown.

The Gunners have never won the UCL before, but they are hoping to change that this year. Their first step is to get past Porto.

Most Valuable Players:

Bukayo Saka - €120 million

Declan Rice - €110 million

Real Madrid

With 14 titles, Real Madrid are the most successful side in the competition.

Los Blancos have always had star players and once again have a squad full of stars.

This season, the Spanish giant's squad is valued at €1,04 billion, but they boast a lot of quality. Madrid will face German side RB Leipzig in the next round of the tournament.

Most Valuable Players:

Jude Bellingham - €180 million

Vinicius Junior - €150 million

Paris Saint-Germain

Like Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain have never won the UCL.

While the French side have had the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe in the squad, they have never gone all the way.

While they may not boast the star power as previous seasons, PSG are still valued at €1,03 billion. The billion Euro squad will take on Real Sociedad in their next UCL fixture.

Most Valuable Player:

Kylian Mbappe - €180 million

Bayer Munich

Fifth in the rankings and the first side in the list not to be valued over a billion Euros is the Bundesliga champions.

The German giants have won the title six times and will look to add a seventh this year. With Harry Kane leading the line, Munich are one of the favourites to lift the cup.

Valued at €976 million, Bayern will take on Lazio next.

Most Valuable Players:

Harry Kane €110 million

Jamal Musiala €110 million

How Man United could still qualify for next UCL

In related news, Sports Brief has also reported on how Manchester United could still qualify for the next Champions League despite being outside the Premier League's top four.

Erik ten Hag's squad are a mixed bag in terms of consistent results, but Liverpool and Man City could still factor into the Red Devils' European ambitions in the next UCL edition.
