Cape Town City FC have solidified their midfield by extending Taahir Goedeman's contract by four years.

This decision marks Goedeman as the second player to receive an extended contract from the club, following goalkeeper Darren Keet's two-year extension.

At 24 years old, Goedeman has proven himself a pivotal player for the the club, particularly since his breakthrough in the 2021/22 DStv Premiership season.

His exceptional performances in the DStv Diski Challenge team showcased his readiness for top-tier football, earning him a spot in the first team.

Since his debut as an academy graduate, has become a mainstay in coach Eric Tinkler's lineup, making 58 appearances across all competitions. His contributions include five goals and two assists, highlighting his impact on the team's midfield.

The announcement of Goedeman's contract extension came through Cape Town City's social media platforms on Tuesday morning, with the club expressing their delight in securing his services for another four years. Coach Tinkler praised the player's development and expressed optimism for continued growth.

“Very pleased that ‘Balla’ signed a new contract. He’s developed significantly in the past few seasons since I joined, and we’re optimistic he’ll continue to do so,” said Tinkler, as quoted on Far Post.

The Citizens have already bolstered their ranks by signing Namibian international Prins Tjiueza, further strengthening their squad following his notable contributions to his country's African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 campaign.

In addition, the club is reportedly pursuing former Leicester City player Khanya Leshabela, as reported by iDiski Times.

The 24-year-old has garnered experience through various loan spells and first-team appearances, making him an enticing prospect for the Premier Soccer League (PSL) club.

With their home PSL tie against Moroka Swallows postponed, they travel to the Buffalo City Municipality Stadium on Saturday, February 17, to face Chippa United. They are second on the log with 29 points, nine behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

Tinkler discloses tactics he used to stop Sundowns

Sports Brief previously reported when Tinkler explained his tactics in halting Mamelodi Sundowns in their PSL clash in December last year.

Tinkler’s men forced the Brazilians to a goalless draw at the Cape Town Stadium.

The PSL defending champions were on a winning run but dropped points for the first time this season against the Blue and Gold Army.
