According to the Vanguard, Iwobi has removed all photos on his official Instagram page after being bombarded with online abuse from fans, leaving just one video on his page.

According to OwngoalNigeria, the Fulham midfielder has now made up his mind to retire from the Super Eagles and ignore future call-ups to represent the Nigeria national team following the conclusion of the AFCON.

Iwobi will return to England to rejoin his Premier League club, Fulham, after over a month away representing the Super Eagles at the continental competition.

Musa wants Iwobi abuse to stop

Meanwhile, Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, has pleaded with fans to stop cyber-attacks directed at teammate, Iwobi, following Nigeria’s loss to Ivory Coast in the AFCON 2023 final, Punch NG reports.

The skipper noted that instead of spreading negativity, supporters of the national team should show genuine love and support towards the players despite their second-place finish at the tournament.

Iwobi was compelled to delete or archive all of his Instagram posts after some angry Nigerian supporters reportedly humiliated and insulted him on social media following Sunday's defeat in the final.

Okocha sends message to Iwobi

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Augustine Jay Jay Okocha has defended his nephew, Iwobi, following reported online abuse he has received from Nigerian fans.

The 27-year-old midfielder was forced to wipe his Instagram after being singled out following the Super Eagles' loss to Ivory Coast in the Africa Cup of Nations final.

Iwobi featured for 79 minutes in Nigeria’s 2-1 defeat to the host nation and was replaced by Alhassan Yusuf after a muted performance for the three-time champs.
