Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi, has reportedly made up his mind to quit representing Nigeria following the backlash he received from angry supporters after the Africa Cup of Nations final.
The 27-year-old has been a target of critics online and has been blamed for Nigeria’s failure to win a fourth AFCON trophy following the Super Eagles 2-1 loss to Ivory Coast in the final on Sunday.
According to the Vanguard, Iwobi has removed all photos on his official Instagram page after being bombarded with online abuse from fans, leaving just one video on his page.
According to OwngoalNigeria, the Fulham midfielder has now made up his mind to retire from the Super Eagles and ignore future call-ups to represent the Nigeria national team following the conclusion of the AFCON.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, has pleaded with fans to stop cyber-attacks directed at teammate, Iwobi, following Nigeria’s loss to Ivory Coast in the AFCON 2023 final, Punch NG reports.
The skipper noted that instead of spreading negativity, supporters of the national team should show genuine love and support towards the players despite their second-place finish at the tournament.
Iwobi was compelled to delete or archive all of his Instagram posts after some angry Nigerian supporters reportedly humiliated and insulted him on social media following Sunday's defeat in the final.
