Ivory Coast players crowned their AFCON trophy parade with a meeting with the fans at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium on Monday.

The triumphant national team players presented the trophy to legions of supporters as celebrations continued late into the night in Abidjan.

Ivory Coast came from a goal down to beat Nigeria in the final on Sunday, with Sebastien Haller netting a late winning goal for the Elephants.

In photos shared on social media, the Ivorian players, who were aboard an open-top parade bus, were spotted enjoying the moment with the fans.

The experienced players in the squad delivered speeches, thanking the supporters as they went from near-elimination to becoming African champions.

Ivory Coast saw their AFCON hopes nearly slip away after a 4-0 group stage defeat to Equatorial Guinea but miraculously snuck into the knockout stages after results from other matches went in their favour.

Going through as one of the best third-place teams, the Elephants went on to eliminate champions Senegal, Mali, and DR Congo before defeating Nigeria in the final.

This is their third success at the Nations Cup, having won the trophy in 1992 and 2013 after beating Ghana twice on penalties, as reported by CNN.

Meanwhile, South Africa finished third in the tournament after beating DR Congo in the third and fourth-place game on Saturday. Ronwen Williams, who was named Goalkeeper of the Tournament, saved two penalties in the shootout.

Ivory Coast fans show up for parade

Earlier, Sports Brief also reported that thousands of Ivory Coast fans came to celebrate their team's success at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The supporters thronged to Abidjan, turning it into a sea of orange, after the Elephants beat Nigeria to claim their first title since victory in 2015.

The host nation mustered a comeback to beat favourites, the Super Eagles, and complete one of the competition's best fairy tale campaigns.
