The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations reaches its pinnacle with an electrifying final showdown between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Les Elephants of Ivory Coast.

In their previous encounter, hailed as one of the best matches of the tournament, Nigeria emerged victorious thanks to a decisive penalty from defender, William Troost-Ekong.

However, Ivory Coast's star striker, Sebastien Haller, who played a pivotal role in securing their spot in the final with a goal against DR Congo, was sidelined due to an ankle injury during their earlier meeting.

As the eagerly awaited rematch approaches, Haller has hinted at a desire for revenge against their West African rivals, adding an extra layer of anticipation to this epic showdown.

Haller hints at revenge against Nigeria

Speaking in an interview with media outlet beINSports, as cited by All Nigeria Soccer, the Borussia Dortmund striker emphasised the significance of securing a victory against Nigeria in the upcoming final.

"We are playing the final against Nigeria. It is a great nation. It is heavy. They beat us in the group stage," Haller stated.

However, suggesting his team's preparedness for a potential revenge, he added:

"We're already fired up to claim the trophy this Sunday in front of the Ivorian crowd in this stadium. We are eager to take revenge on Nigeria."

Despite the appointment of new manager, Emerse Fae, the Ivorians have been far from convincing in the tournament and came close to being eliminated on occasion during the knockout rounds of the showpiece.

As anticipation builds for the final showdown between both sides, Haller's remarks inject an additional element of intrigue into an already thrilling encounter.

Troost-Ekong speaks on AFCON dream

Sports Brief also previously reported on Nigeria defender, Troost-Ekong, expressing his aspiration to win the AFCON title against Ivory Coast.

The PAOK Thessaloniki centre-back has been pivotal to the Super Eagles' success in the 2023 edition of the continental tournament.
