Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has spoken for the first time on social media since helping Nigeria beat Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-final.
South Africa and Nigeria met in the semi-final, boasting identical defensive records, having kept four consecutive clean sheets, but the West African nation reached the final.
Ronwen Williams, who saved four penalties during the shootout in the quarter-final against Cape Verde, could not save any, while Nwabali stopped two.
Former Nigerian goalkeeper, Idah Peterside, speaking on Channels TV, claimed there are threats from South African fans for the Nigerian not to return to his club, Chippa United, after his performance against their country.

Nwabali sends message to South African fans
The former Enyimba goalkeeper has posted on his social media, reflecting on the game and sending a message of love to the fans of the country where he plays club football.
“This is a game I’m born to play. A night to remember!!! I felt every bit of it!!! Brick by brick and dreams are coming true. No love lost at all. I still love South Africa as much as their fans loves me and I love this team🇳🇬with all my heart,🙏🏽🧤,” he wrote on X.
The 27-year-old joined PSL side Chippa United in December 2022 from Nigeria Professional Football League side Katsina United and has received support from the club during the tournament.
Peterside, who reported the alleged threat, lives in Johannesburg and spent time in the league. He played for Temba Classic and Moroka Swallows, retiring after leaving the latter.
