  • Pitso Mosimane has taken charge of Abha Club who are languishing in the Saudi Pro League

  • Mosimane has tried to make an immediate impact by attempting several signings

Pitso Mosimane has 15 games to pull off a relegation rescue mission.

After ending incessant speculation about where his next challenges would lie, the work for the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly trophy-winner has begun.

Sports Brief takes a peek at the first five games Mosimane has to set his tenure with Abha Club off to a successful start.

Pitso Mosimane's first 5 SPL fixtures

1. Al-Taawoun

Mosimane's second debut in the Saudi Pro League will be at home to fourth-placed Al-Taawoun. The team has a handful of Brazilians, but Al Dhiaab have not brought in any European or International stars that the league has made headlines for.

Their last outing was a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr, having won three of their last four prior to that game.

2. Al-Fayha

Picking up points against fellow strugglers will be the quickest way out of the bottom-half sludge. Al-Fayha's 14th place on the log could be deceptive, as they are still in the Round of 16 in the AFC Champions League.

Mosimane will hope that continental hangover continues as he looks for his first points away from home on February 25.

3. Al-Tai

Currently the team immediately above Abha Club on the log, points in the preceding fixtures could see them leapfrog Al-Tai by the time they meet.

Nevertheless, it will be a vital encounter to put some distance between their relegation rivals and send a message to the other teams that Abha are on a new trajectory.

4. Al-Ettifaq

Steven Gerrard renewed his contract in mid-January, as per SPL, suggesting the club are not reading too much into their eighth position on the log.

This will be 'Jingles' first brush with the new crop of celebrity additions, and he will be keen to claim a big-name scalp early in his tenure.

5. Al-Wehda

By the conclusion of their first four games, a pattern should emerge for Mosimane. Admittedly, his squad is short on quality, which he has tried to bolster with Iqraam Rayners.

Odion Ighalo will be the standout name on the team sheet in their fifth game against Al-Wehda but the South African will be hoping his team are the ones carrying a new reputation.

Mosimane linked with The Pharaohs

Sports Brief recently on Pitso Mosimane being linked with the Egyptian national team job.

'Jingles' recently joined Saudi Pro League outfit, Abha Club, until the end of the current season.

The Egyptian Football Association dismissed Rui Vitoira after the team's failure at AFON 2023.
