Super Eagles technical adviser Gernot Rohr was excited with his players despite their 1-0 defeat to African rivals Cameroon in an international friendly played in Austria earlier this weekend.

Andre Anguissa's lone goal from about 30 yards out in the 37th minute ensured the Indomitable Lions avenged their AFCON 2019 defeat to Nigeria.

But the German-born coach believes the result was meaningless compared to the impact the game had on his players.

The 67-year-old added that it was interesting seeing some new players show the quality they are made of, adding that his men had six shots on target while the opponents played just three. Rohr said as reported by Complete Sport and Goal:

“The most important thing is not the result because it was just a test match. It was interesting to see some new players because we had to manage the situation and we did well, I think we had 17 shots on the goal while Cameroon only had three, they had only one on target which was the goal and we had six in the target.
“Like I said, the result is not the most important thing in a friendly, the most important thing is to learn, to see some interesting things, to test some new players and to see what we want to do in September for the World Cup qualifiers.
“Our domination was not good enough because we had to score in the beginning of the game but we didn’t and when you don’t score you get published.”

The three-time African champions will have the opportunity to make amends when both teams clash again on Tuesday.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Cameroon defeat the Super Eagles of Nigeria in an international friendly at the Stadion Weiner Neustadt, Vienna, Austria.

Nigeria and Cameroon face off in double friendlies in preparation of the World Cup qualifiers slated for August this year.

Both teams approached the encounter playing for pride as it was explosive right from the start to the end of the encounter.
