- The likes of Rooney, Gerrard and Mamadou Sakho have all been victims of robbery at some point.
It certainly pays to be a world class football player applying your trade in the lucrative Premier League.
However, with every job in the world, there are always occupational hazards and for a footballer, some of their biggest concerns has always been their safety.

TUKO.co.ke recently highlighted the plight of Tottenham midfielder Delle Ali who was robbed of valuables at gunpoint on Wednesday, May 13.
Here is a list of other notable Premier League players, past and present, who fell victim to the same.
1. Sadio Mane
The Senegalese star once had his house ransacked and valuables including watches, phones and car keys stolen while he was on Champions League duty against Bayern Munich.

2. Jan Vertonghen
Delle Alli’s fellow teammate Vertonghen came face to face with four armed men in March 2019 while he was on Champions League duty in Germany.
The men raided his home in the presence of his wife and children although no one was harmed in the incident.
3. Delle Ali
As mentioned earlier, the Spurs midfielder came face to face with intruders in his home who made away with valuables including watches.
4. Mamadou Sakho
The Crystal Palace defender had valuables worth a reported KSh 65 million (£500,000) stolen from his home in December 2019.
He was away with his family as his side prepared for a clash against Southampton.

5. Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac
This is perhaps one of the more viral incidents where the two Arsenal stars were threatened with a knife by a group of men in the London streets in an event that was caught on camera.

The suspect, Ashley Smith, was jailed for 10 years for the robbery attempt.
6. Wayne Rooney
Being one of the most decorated England players around, Rooney’s Cheshire mansion was targeted by a former serviceman as he was playing in his testimonial.

7. Roberto Firmino
In late 2016, Firmino had his home robbed and jewellery worth KSh 9 million stolen from his Liverpool home just as he was settling in the city.
8. Steven Gerrard

FootballWinning the Champions League in 2005 came with its own curse as Gerrard was among many Liverpool players who had their houses targeted in subsequent months in a spree which went on for more than a year.

Lampard experienced every married man’s nightmare in 2008 after his house was targeted by thugs while he and his then pregnant wife were asleep.

10. Paul Scholes
The former United midfielder’s incident was one for the movies as he had his 4 by 4 stolen after he briefly left the engine running to clear the windscreen of snow in 2013.

The former Everton defender was robbed at knifepoint in 2009 at his Cheshire home ironically while he was watching his team play on TV.
