Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has thrown her weight behind the Super Eagles ahead of their crunch Africa Cup of Nations semi-final clash against South Africa on Wednesday, February 7, in Boauke.

The World Trade Organization Director-General sent a message of support to the Nigerian team, wishing them the best of luck in the crucial game against Bafana Bafana.

Nigeria, bidding to win a fourth AFCON title, will trade blows with Hugo Broos’ men at the 40,000 capacity Stade de la Paix, Boauke, for a chance to seal a final ticket in Ivory Coast.

The Super Eagles remain unbeaten so far in the competition after five games, defeating Cameroon and Angola in the Round of 16 and quarter-finals, respectively, to set up the tie against South Africa.

This will be the fourth time Nigeria will be meeting Bafana Bafana in the AFCON, with the Super Eagles winning their three previous meeting with an impressive 8-1 aggregate scoreline.

Hugo Broos banking on teamwork

Meanwhile, South Africa's coach Hugo Broos is hoping that his team's collective strength will help them defeat Nigeria's Super Eagles in Wednesday's Africa Cup of Nations semi-final, Vanguard reports.

The Belgian boss reckons Nigeria is filled with superstar players such as Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Alex Iwobi but insists Bafana Bafana’s collectiveness is what makes them a good team.

Broos’ starting line-up has been the same for South Africa’s last four matches, including Saturday’s victory on penalties over Cape Verde in the quarter-finals.

Osimhen cleared for South Africa tie

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Victor Osimhen will feature for the Super Eagles in their semi-final clash against South Africa after the medics gave him the all-clear to play the game.

The 25-year-old forward was a serious doubt due to abdominal discomfort, which prevented him from traveling with the squad to Bouake.

Osimhen has scored just one goal for the Super Eagles at the tournament so far, but the Napoli forward is considered one of Nigeria’s key players.
