AFCON 2023: Osimhen Set to Rejoin Super Eagles Team, Receives Medical Clearance

The Super Eagles medical team has reportedly given Victor Osimhen the all-clear, meaning he could feature in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-final against South Africa on Wednesday, February 7.

The 25-year-old forward was a major doubt for the crucial game against Bafana Bafana after he was left behind in Abidjan while the rest of the national team travelled to Bouake for the semi-final clash.

According to the Vanguard, Osimhen was left out of the trip after complaining of abdominal discomfort and was being monitored by the Super Eagles media team, who have now cleared the striker.

The Napoli forward is now said to be en route to Bouake and will reunite with the rest of the Super Eagles squad after being given the all-clear by the medics.

Osimhen has featured in all of Nigeria’s five games at the AFCON, and his return to the team will be seen as good news by supporters of the Super Eagles, who have been worried after news of his medical situation broke.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro had refused to rule Osimhen out of participating in Nigeria’s crunch Africa Cup of Nations semi-final tie against South Africa, Daily Post reports.

Hugo Broos downplays Osimhen's threat

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that South Africa head coach, Hugo Broos has identified Ademola Lookman and not Osimhen as the Super Eagles' biggest threat in attack.

The AFCON-winning coach made this assertion while previewing the semi-final clash between Bafana Bafana and Nigeria, which is set for Wednesday night, February 7.

Lookman has scored three goals in the knockout phase alone, while Osimhen has failed to score in four consecutive AFCON games since his goal versus Equatorial Guinea.
