According to talkSPORT, Martinez went straight down the tunnel after the incident, sparking fears on the extent of his injury.

The centre-back had initially tried to soldier on after going down moments earlier, only for him to be substituted after he was assessed.

Erik ten Hag painted a grim picture of the defender's injury shortly after the Premier League cracker, with the Dutchman describing it as 'bad.'

Man United delivers update on Martinez's injury

And that seems to be the case - at least going by the latest update on the extent of the defender's injury.

In a statement released by Man United on Monday, the Premier League club disclosed that their centre-back is set to be on the sidelines for at least eight weeks.

"Lisandro Martinez has sustained an injury to the medial collateral ligament in his knee and is expected to be out of action for at least eight weeks," the statement said.
"We all wish Licha a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back on the pitch later in the season," the club added.

The development comes at a time when Martinez was working on his way back to the top after spending the better part of the season on the sidelines with another injury.

Man United to reward Kobbie Mainoo

Elsewhere, Sports Brief reported on Manchester United's plan to offer youngster Kobbie Mainoo a new bumper deal following his impressive performances.

Mainoo has made a strong start in the senior team since he broke into the first-team squad under Erik ten Hag.

The 18-year-old midfielder has gone from strength to strength since then, with his stunning display in the middle of the park earning him praise from fans and pundits.
