Nigeria's semi-final clash against South Africa will be a battle of the most disciplined defences at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Jose Peseiro will parade Stanley Nwabali against Ronwen Williams, whose penalty-saving antics are pretty much the reason why South Africa made it past Cape Verde in the quarter-final.

With four clean sheets each, there is a good chance that one of them will succeed Edouard Mendy as the goalkeeper of the tournament.

But as we will see herein, having many clean sheets often doesn't necessarily translate to having the most saves in the tournament. That honour goes to Mauritania's Babacar Niasse, who made 15 saves from the 18 shots he faced in Ivory Coast.

Williams is only fifth on the list, having saved 12 shots of the 14 he has faced. Nwabali is only in 10th place, with the Nigerian defence only restricting opponents to 11 shots on target, with only Equatorial Guinea's Iban Salvador finding a way past the Chippa United goalkeeper.
