  • Nigeria are through to the next knockout stage of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Angola
  • Jose Peseiro's side defeated the Palancas Negras in the quarter-final to secure a place in the semi-final
  • Victor Osimhen is a major doubt for the semi-final after being substituted against Angola due to injury

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are through to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals after their victory over Angola's Palancas Negras in the quarter-final.

Former RB Leipzig star Ademola Lookman's first-half goal gave the Super Eagles a deserved 1-0 win over the Black Antelopes at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium on Friday (February 2).

One of the major concerns after the game was Victor Osimhen being stretched off the pitch and was substituted a few minutes later for Paul Onuachu.

In an exclusive interview with Sports Brief, Super Eagles assistant coach Finidi George gives an update on Osimhen's possible injury ahead of the semi-final clash.

"I do not know; these are the questions for the medical team, but I think from what I have seen, it is not too bad, but I am not the doctor," he said.

After knocking Angola out, the Enyimba international coach also spoke about Nigeria's possible opponent in the semi-final.

"Every game as it comes, this one is gone, so we'll have a rest and try and then try and prepare for the next game," he added.
"We don't know our opponent; we'll watch the game tomorrow and see which team we're playing."

The three-time champions will face either Cape Verde's Blue Sharks or South Africa's Bafana Bafana in the last four, according to a report by Soccerway.

Goncalves discloses why Angola lost to Nigeria

Sports Brief earlier reported on Angola coach Pedro Goncalves explaining why the Black Antelopes lost to Nigeria in the quarter-finals of AFCON 2023.

Angola qualified for the last eight after defeating Namibia in the Round of 16 but couldn't get past the three-time African champions.
