  • Pitso Mosimane has completed his first signing for Abha Club
  • The South African coach has signed Marcel Tisserand
  • Mosimane joined Abha in January after three months without a job

Pitso Mosimane has settled into life quickly at Saudi Pro League side Abha Club as the South African manager has completed his first signing for the relegation-threatened club.

The 59-year-old manager has secured the services of former Democratic Republic of Congo captain Marcel Tisserand from Steven Gerrard’s Ettifaq FC for a reported fee of €3 million.

According to KingFut, Abha also completed the signing of Al Ahli’s left-back Ibrahim Al-Zubaidi on loan until the end of the season as Mosimane leads the club’s charge to escape relegation.

Tisserand’s arrival at Abha will see Cameroon’s international Karl Toko Ekambi move the other way to Ettifaq FC permanently, despite only joining Abha last summer from Olympique Lyon.

The DR Congo international had a long career in Europe, having played for Monaco, Toulouse, VfL Wolfsburg, and Fenerbahce. He was a regular under Gerrard in the first half of the season, making 17 games at the back for Ettifaq.

What’s next for Pitso Mosimane?

Abha fans will be hoping that both signings, together with the appointment of Pitso Mosimane, will help the team improve its fortunes and escape getting relegated from the Saudi Pro League, GOAL reports.

Abha are presently in 17th place on the log with 14 points, five points from safety in the league after gathering seven losses in their last eight league games before Mosimane’s appointment in January.

The former Al Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns coach's mission to steer Abha away from relegation remains a formidable task in the second half of the season.

Kaizer Chiefs still wants Mosimane

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that despite accepting a new job in the Saudi Pro League, Kaizer Chiefs still want Pitso Mosimane as their permanent manager.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns manager, who recently signed a four-month contract with Abha Club, could be returning to the Premier Soccer League shortly.

Cavin Johnson, Mosimane's former assistant, is currently managing AmaKhosi on an interim basis and has not decided on his future with the club.
