Cristiano Ronaldo will disappoint fans after it was confirmed he will miss the reunion with Lionel Messi in the Riyadh Season Cup.
Messi and Ronaldo have been the face of football since breaking onto the scene in 2008, and both left European football in 2023, within six months of each other.
Ronaldo moved to Saudi Arabia with Al-Nassr, pioneering a mass influx of ageing top European stars into the Middle Eastern country, including Brazilian playmaker Neymar Jr.
Messi left Paris Saint-Germain after his two-year contract expired, opting against renewal and moving to the Major League Soccer with Inter Miami, turning down a lucrative offer from the Saudis.

Ronaldo to miss Messi reunion
Inter Miami and Al-Nassr are scheduled to face off in the Riyadh Season Cup, a match which has been dubbed ‘Last Dance’ by fans, seeing it as the last between the two.
Per Geglobo via AlbicelesteTalk reported that manager Luis Castro confirmed that Ronaldo will miss the game after just joining team training following recovery from a muscle injury.
“We will not see [Messi vs Ronaldo], Ronaldo is in the final part of his recovery to join the group. We hope that in the next few days you can start working with the team. He will be absent from the game,” he said.
Per The Athletic, the injury forced the club to cancel their mid-season tour of China, where they were due to face Super League clubs Zhejiang and Shanghai Shenhua.
