  • Vinicius Junior sparked an online buzz with his Cristiano Ronaldo-inspired message
  • The Real Madrid No.7 showed that he has been monitoring the AFCON with his post
  • Vini then joined the players of South Africa in paying tribute to the Al-Nassr captain

Real Madrid winger, Vinicius Junior, sparked a social media buzz with his Cristiano Ronaldo-themed remark on South Africa's goal celebration during their 2023 AFCON Round of 16 win over Morocco.

Bafana Bafana - the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations champions - pulled off one of the tournament's most unexpected upsets by defeating the Atlas Lions to book their place in the quarter-final stage.

According to Eurosport, despite being the underdogs, Hugo Broos' men continued the trend of defying expectations, eliminating the 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-finalists.

Evidence Makgopa and Teboho Mokoena's second-half goals marked the end of Morocco's journey in the competition, as yet another top-ranked team was knocked out.

South Africa mimics Ronaldo's 'sleep' celebration

Following Achraf Hakimi's missed 85th-minute penalty, per Goal, it was Mokoena's celebration after his expert free kick goal that gained attention online.

The South African opted for Cristiano Ronaldo's iconic 'sleep' celebration, a move that the Portuguese maestro adopted as yet another famous routine.

Joined by his teammates, the celebration turned into an artful display, capturing the attention of photojournalists at the Laurent Pokou Stadium in San Pedro and subsequently flooding social media with images.

Vinicius causes buzz with Ronaldo post

In response to the viral photos, Vinicius, who currently wears Ronaldo's iconic No. 7 shirt at Real Madrid, expressed his admiration for the now Al-Nassr captain.

His post, written in Spanish, was translated as 'We all love CR7'. However, the Brazilian winger later deleted his post, leaving users on X (formerly Twitter) in bewilderment.

@theNanaPoku, quipped:

"We all love CR7" that's what Vinicius tweeted, so why did he delete it?"

Another user, @Ruf_ayi, also asked a similar question:

"Vinicius has deleted the quote. But why?"

@RayMaboya suggested Vinicius might have coiled into his shell when the post went viral:

"Vinicius Jr folded? Why did he delete the tweet??"

Meanwhile, @Claudia16947306 expressed sadness with Vini's decision to delete the post:

"Sad he deleted it the Barca stans and stans found his tweet."

Vini scores against Barca, hits Ronaldo's 'Siuuu'

Sports Brief also previously reported that Vini Jr. paid a fitting tribute to Ronaldo during Real Madrid's Supercopa de Espana clash against fiercest rivals, Barcelona.

The Brazilian forward not only provided a stellar start for Los Blancos in the El Clasico clash but also invoked the veteran's iconic celebration, known as 'Siuuu'.

After eluding Barcelona's offside trap to receive a pass from Jude Bellingham and beating Inaki Pena in the Catalans' goal, Vini performed the famous celebration.
