FootballDidier Drogba: Chelsea Legend Reacts After South Africa Eliminates Morocco a Day After Senegal Exit
- Didier Drogba has reacted to South Africa's win over Morocco
- The top five sides at the 2023 AFCON have been eliminated
- Ivory Coast will face Mali in the last eight of the competition
Ivory Coast legend Didier Drogba has been left impressed by the level of competition at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in his home country.
The latest surprise at the tournament is South Africa's elimination of top-ranked team Morocco.
This comes barely 24 hours after the second-ranked nation on the continent and the defending champions Senegal were knocked out of the tournament.
None of the teams in the top five of Africa's rankings are in the last eight of the competition, leaving the ex-Chelsea star excited by the shocks AFCON 2023 has delivered.
"Waaaw, The two biggest favourites of the AFCON 2023, Senegal and Morocco eliminated. The 2023 vintage is stunning and it’s happening here, in Ivory Coast," he posted on X, formerly Twitter, moments after South Africa's 2-0 win over Morocco.
Drogba watched Ivory Coast recover from the brink of AFCON exit to beating Senegal on penalties to stay in the tournament.
The quarter-finals will serve some mouthwatering fixtures with Angola engaging the Super Eagles of Nigeria while South Africa faces Group B winners Cape Verde, per Sky Sports.
Hosts Ivory Coast will face Mali, who knocked out 2021 semi-finalist Burkina Faso with Guinea and DR Congo.
