Super Eagles defender and former Chelsea star Kenneth Omeruo has shared his thoughts on Angola players talking tough ahead of the quarter-final tie at the 2023 AFCON.

The former Middlesbrough defender was involved in Nigeria's 2-0 win over Cameroon at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium on Saturday (January 27).

The AFCON 2013 winner is not concerned about going back and forth with the Palancas Negras players ahead of their game, and he prefers Nigeria to do their talking on the pitch.

In an interview ahead of the game, the former Leganes defender was specific about the Super Eagles' ambition in the tournament.

“We have absolutely no need to go into back-and-forth chatter with any team. The Super Eagles are in Cote d’Ivoire for serious business," he said.
"We have not played Angola for a long time, but I remember we played them in 2012 in a friendly, and it ended in a draw. I have also read of how previous encounters between the two countries have been quite close.
“There is no possibility of Friday’s match ending in a draw; a winner must emerge. So much talk has been going on. Our collective resolve is to do the talking on the pitch. The Nigeria Spirit trumps all."

The winners between Nigeria and Angola will face either South Africa or Cape Verde in the semi-finals of the competition, according to Soccerway.

AFCON: Lookman Believes Nigeria Can Be Better

Sports Brief earlier reported on Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman claiming that the three-time Africa champions can still play better in the competition ahead of Angola clash.

The former Leicester City forward was the star of the match as Nigeria knocked out Cameroon from the tournament in the last 16.

Lookman scored a brace as the Super Eagles secured a deserved win over the Indomitable Lions.
