- Ivory Coast won the last-16 tie against Senegal 5-4 on penalties
Senegal winger Krepin Diatta was not impressed with the officiating during their Round of 16 loss against Ivory Coast and has taken his frustration out on the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF).
The AFCON defending champions were booted out of the tournament after losing 5-4 on penalties against the Elephants following an entertaining 1-1 draw after extra-time.
According to the Guardian, Diatta has accused CAF of being corrupt, claiming Senegal were not awarded a penalty early in the second half when Ismaila Sarr went down in a tangle of legs in the Ivory Coast box.
“You have killed us. You are corrupt. Keep your African Cup. You go to the VAR to give them a penalty, while our guy (Sarr) picks up the ball 40 metres from goal, goes on a run into the box, and you don’t want to go to the VAR?
“I’m sorry, but that is going too far. I am really sorry, but they have killed our competition.”
Senegal was ahead 1-0 at the moment thanks to Habib Diallo's early goal, but Gabonese referee, Pierre Ghislain Atcho, did not point to the spot and did not approach the pitchside monitor to study the video.
CAF may sanction Senegal’s Diatta
Meanwhile, Senegal winger Diatta may face disciplinary action after accusing the Confederation of African Football (CAF) of being corrupt following their ouster from the Africa Cup of Nations, France 24 reports.
The African body frowned at the accusation made by the Senegalese winger and is ready to take action after their credibility was questioned following the Teranga Lions AFCON exit.
