  • Krepin Diatta says CAF is corrupt after Senegal’s exit from AFCON
  • The Teranga Lions were knocked out by Ivory Coast in the Round of 16
  • Ivory Coast won the last-16 tie against Senegal 5-4 on penalties

Senegal winger Krepin Diatta was not impressed with the officiating during their Round of 16 loss against Ivory Coast and has taken his frustration out on the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF).

The AFCON defending champions were booted out of the tournament after losing 5-4 on penalties against the Elephants following an entertaining 1-1 draw after extra-time.

According to the Guardian, Diatta has accused CAF of being corrupt, claiming Senegal were not awarded a penalty early in the second half when Ismaila Sarr went down in a tangle of legs in the Ivory Coast box.

“You have killed us. You are corrupt. Keep your African Cup. You go to the VAR to give them a penalty, while our guy (Sarr) picks up the ball 40 metres from goal, goes on a run into the box, and you don’t want to go to the VAR?
“I’m sorry, but that is going too far. I am really sorry, but they have killed our competition.”

Senegal was ahead 1-0 at the moment thanks to Habib Diallo's early goal, but Gabonese referee, Pierre Ghislain Atcho, did not point to the spot and did not approach the pitchside monitor to study the video.

CAF may sanction Senegal’s Diatta

Meanwhile, Senegal winger Diatta may face disciplinary action after accusing the Confederation of African Football (CAF) of being corrupt following their ouster from the Africa Cup of Nations, France 24 reports.

The African body frowned at the accusation made by the Senegalese winger and is ready to take action after their credibility was questioned following the Teranga Lions AFCON exit.

Ivory Coast will face Mali or Burkina Faso in a quarter-final on Saturday in Bouake, with the two teams meeting in the last 16 on Tuesday.

Ivory Coast sails into quarterfinal

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ivory Coast have eliminated Senegal, the defending champion and tournament favourite, from the Africa Cup of Nations after a thrilling penalty shootout.

The hosts were jubilant all through the night as they fought back from a goal down to force penalty shootouts after Franck Kessie had converted an 86th-minute equaliser.
