FootballAmad Diallo Courts Controversy After 'Liking' Post Criticising Ten Hag’s Decisions
- Amad Diallo was an unused substitute for Man United against Newport
- The 21-year-old appeared to ‘like’ a post which criticised Erik ten Hag
- Diallo spent last season at Sunderland where he excelled, scoring 13 goals
Amad Diallo risks the wrath of Erik ten Hag after appearing to ‘like’ a post on X which criticised the manager’s team selection.
Diallo is back at Manchester United after spending the 2022/23 campaign in the Championship with Sunderland.
He was part of the squad that travelled to Wales on Sunday, January 28 to face Newport County in the FA fourth round, but ended up being an unused substitute.
The Red Devils ended up not needing Diallo’s services in the end, as they secured a 4-2 victory courtesy of goals from Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, Antony and Rasmus Hojlund.
Ten Hag fielded a fairly strong team and could have brought on Diallo in the dying stages of the game but instead went for 19-year-old Omari Forson.
Diallo reacts on social media
The decision to be left out of the game for a cup match seems to have irked Diallo, who sent out hints of his true feelings with his social media activity.
As reported by Daily Star, the 21-year-old, who scored 14 goals last season while on loan, ‘liked’ a tweet which urged him to return to Sunderland where he had more game time.
The tweet read, “Here, Amad Diallo - if they're not going to start you in the FA Cup away at Newport County, it really really isn't worth you giving them your time. Come home, come somewhere you are truly appreciated."
Diallo, presumably aware of the ripples such a move would cause, removed his like, but hawk-eyed fans had already taken screenshots.

FootballSeveral Manchester United fans have already paid the price of ‘indiscipline’ within the club, with the latest culprit being their star striker Marcus Rashford.
According to Transfermarkt, Diallo has only made one Premier League appearance all season.
Rashford to be slapped with hefty fine
In other news, Sports Brief reported on the potential punishment Marcus Rashford is facing after going partying and calling in sick the following day.
Rashford also missed the Newport game, just a day after it emerged he had gone to a club in Northern Ireland.
