South Africa face Morocco in a massive Round of 16 clash at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on Tuesday evening.
Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos is confident his side can upset the favourites. South Africa are the last team to beat the Atlas Lions before the tournament.
The 1996 champions have had a decent tournament. After losing to Mali in their first game, Bafana Bafana bounced back with an emphatic 4-0 win over neighbours Namibia.
They drew 0-0 in their final Group E game to seal a spot in the Round of 16.
Meanwhile, Morocco have been comfortable throughout the tournament. They won two and drew three of their group games, and their title credentials will be tested on Tuesday night.
Walid Regragui's side are favouties to win the match, and anything other than a win will be seen as a failure from the 2022 World Cup semi-finalists.
Hugo Broos on Morocco vs South Africa
Speaking ahead of the game, Broos is confident his side can beat favourites Morocco.
“We believe tomorrow it’s possible to beat Morocco, but we need to be at our best level and we can beat this Morocco,” per iDiski Times.
Broos, who won the 2017 AFCON with Cameroon, believes it is possible to beat the 1976 champions.
“It will be difficult but we’ve seen surprises at AFCON, in the last few days, big countries are home, Egypt and Cameroon are home, it’s possible for surprises, we beat Morocco a year ago in Johannesburg, and we can do it when we play our best level."

FootballSouth Africa's path to final
Bafana Bafana's path to the final is tough. They have to beat Morocco, the top-ranked team in Ivory Coast, to progress to the quarter-final.
In the quarter-final, they could face Cape Verde or Mauritania. These teams are not to be underestimated, as they can beat even the best. Cape Verde, for instance, topped a group with Ghana and Egypt. Mauritania had to beat Algeria to qualify, so the standards are high.
They could play Nigeria or Angola in the semis. On paper, the Super Eagles are expected to reach the semis at least. South Africa will have to stop Victor Osimhen and company to reach the final.
If everything goes their way, defending champions Senegal, could be waiting for Bafana Bafana in the final, as Sports Brief earlier reported.
