FootballAltay Bayindir: Video Appears to Show Key Difference Between Turkey Goalie and Andre Onana
- Altay Bayindir played his first game for Manchester United on Sunday
- His first game was a 4-2 victory over Newport County in the FA Cup
- The Turkey international has since shared a message to fans on social media
Altay Bayindir was elated after finally making his Manchester United debut, six months since signing for the club.
The Turkey international has had to play second fiddle to Andre Onana, who has been the main man between the sticks for Erik ten Hag all season.
But Onana’s departure to the Africa Cup of Nations opened the door for Bayindir, who was inevitably named in the starting XI in the FA Cup fourth round against Newport County.
The 25-year-old showed no signs of not playing the whole season as he made some decent saves against the League Two side.
Despite Newport scoring twice, both goals were hardly the goalie’s fault
Speaking to media after the game, Bayindir expressed delight at finally playing for Manchester United, saying, per beIN SPORTS:
“I can’t describe this feeling. First Turkish player to play for a very big club like Manchester United. I always ask myself the question on how I can improve everyday.”
He added, “I feel like this is my new family. I can see everybody supporting me.”
Key difference between Bayindir and Onana
Highlights of Bayindir and Newport have since hit the internet, showing one key difference between the Turkey international and his counterpart Andre Onana.
From the clips, Ten Hag’s philosophy of playing at the back despite the opposition’s high press was in full effect, but Bayindir was keener on taking fewer risks with his passes.
Notably, his passes mainly go towards his fullbacks, while Onana has never been afraid to try an incisive pass from the back.

FootballAs a result, United defenders had little problems dealing with their opponents while starting their play from the back, since many of the receivers of the ball from Bayindir’s passes were unmarked.
Meanwhile, Andre Onana is poised to return to Manchester United after Cameroon were knocked out of the Africa Cup of Nations in the last 16.
As reported on GOAL, the Indomitable Lions fell to a 2-0 defeat to Nigeria on Saturday, January 27, as the Super Eagles set up a quarter-final tie against Angola.
United face Wolverhampton Wanderers in their next game on Thursday, February 1, in a game in which Onana is expected to make a return.
Rashford to be slapped with hefty fine
Elsewhere, Sports Brief reported on the possible fine Marcus Rashford could be handed after he was spotted out partying.
Rashford, 26, ended up missing training on Friday, January 26, and it was reported that he was in Northern Ireland on Thursday.
He also missed United’s game against Newport in the FA Cup, which ended in a 4-2 win for the Red Devils.
