  • Former Mamelodi Sundowns boss Pitso Mosimane has taken the helm at Abha FC
  • Jingles as his affectionately known in South Africa had been without a job since leaving Al Wahda exit
  • Mosimane's agent and wife had already confirmed the seasoned coach's new team

Former Mamelodi Sundowns manager, Pitso Mosimane, has officially announced his new role as the manager for Abha Football Club in Saudi Arabia.

Despite widespread speculation linking Mosimane with a return to the Premier Soccer League with Kaizer Chiefs, the seasoned coach has opted for a fresh challenge in the Middle East.

After parting ways with Al Wahda in the United Arab Emirates late last year, Mosimane's future had been the subject of much speculation.

Taking to social media, Mosimane shared his excitement about the new chapter.

"An exciting new journey ahead with Abha FC. Ready to put in the work necessary to elevate the team. Thank you to the President and the Boards for entrusting me with this responsibility. With our supporters behind us, inshallah, we will build something special,” Mosimane posted on his X handle.

The confirmation comes after Mosimane's agent and wife, Moira Tlhagale, hinted on January 26 that the former Al Ahly boss would return to a familiar destination. The company representing him also disclosed the details of Mosimane's contract with the Saudi Pro League club.

While Mosimane's coaching prowess is well-regarded, this move marks his first venture into the top flight of Saudi Arabian football.

"Pitso will be returning to the Gulf and has signed a four-month contract with the team until the end of the season. His mandate is clear: to ensure that Abha survives relegation and plays in the [Saudi] Pro League again next season,” the company stated, as reported by iDiski Times.

With a track record of elevating teams, including leading Jeddah-based Al-Ahli Saudi to first-tier promotion within a year, all eyes will be on how he navigates this new challenge and helps the club secure its position in the league.

Abha are 17th (second last) in the Saudi Pro League with only 14 points after 19 rounds of matches. They have won only four times this season, drawn twice and lost 13 times, the most in the league.

Amakhosi confirm first-team coach

Sports Brief reported that Premier Soccer Leage side Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the coach until the end of the season amid links with Pitso Mosimane.

AmaKhosi have been without a permanent manager since the departure of Molefi Ntseki late last year.

Chiefs then appointed Cavin Johnson to take over the helms of affairs on an interim basis.
