FootballMarcus Rashford Set to Receive Major Financial Penalty for Partying and Missing Training
- Man United's Marcus Rashford is set to suffer a hefty fine for misconduct
- The forward was reportedly spotted out partying on Thursday, January 25
- He subsequently missed United’s FA Cup clash against Newport on Sunday
Marcus Rashford is set to be slapped with the biggest possible financial penalty for his alleged indiscretions last week.
The forward was a trending topic on Sunday, January 28, after it emerged that he went out partying, barely 48 hours before Manchester United faced Newport in the FA Cup fourth round.
The 26-year-old subsequently missed the tie, with manager, Erik ten Hag revealing later that Rashford had called in sick and stating the matter would be dealt with 'internally'.
"It is an internal matter and I will deal with it. We will deal with it. I will deal with it," he said, as quoted by the BBC.
The Red Devils advanced to the fifth round with a 4-2 victory thanks to goals from Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, Antony, and Rasmus Hojlund.
Rashford missed training on Friday, something that significantly lowered his chances of playing against Newport. It was later revealed the England international called to say he was too sick to attend the session at Carrington.
According to Express Sport, Rashford’s partying ways are set to cost him significantly as he faces a huge £650,000 fine from Manchester United. This is the equivalent of two weeks of his £325,000 wage.
Under the PFA rules, this is the biggest financial penalty a club can hand down to a player.
What was Rashford up to last week?
In the build-up to United’s clash against Newport, Rashford travelled to Belfast, Northern Ireland and linked up with former United academy graduate, Ro-Shaun Williams, who is on the verge of joining Larne FC from Doncaster Rovers.

FootballOn Friday, The Athletic accessed photos of the forward partying at Thompson's nightclub in Belfast, barely hours before ten Hag revealed his star player was ‘ill.
United claimed the photos were taken on Wednesday, but several outlets indicate Rashford was spotted at the venue on Thursday as well.
Notably, it isn’t the first time Ten Hag has clashed with Rashford over disciplinary issues.
In 2022, the Dutchman dropped his forward for the clash against Wolverhampton after he arrived late to a meeting. Rashford ended up coming off the bench to score the winner.
Hojlund reprimands United teammate Garnacho
Still on Manchester United, there was a curious incident during the Newport game as Rasmus Hojlund appeared to reprimand Alejandro Garnacho for not passing the ball.
The Danish star, who was on the scoresheet with a late goal during the FA Cup encounter, was growing increasingly frustrated by the lack of service from his teammates.
Hojlund then appeared to have made his feelings towards Garnacho clear after the Argentine went wide with his attempt despite having an opportunity to pass the ball.
