- He took to social media to celebrate despite fans bashing his celebrations
Antony is not letting anyone downplay his emotions after scoring his first goal of the season for Manchester United in their 4-2 FA Cup win over Newport City.
United raced to an early two-goal lead against the League Two side through captain, Bruno Fernandes and youngster, Kobbie Mainoo, who scored his first goal for the club.
The Red Devils were held back in the early minutes of the second half to a 2-2 draw, which heightened tension on social media, but the Premier League side responded with two more goals.
Per ESPN, Antony - who had previously assisted Fernandes - scored the third goal, his first in nine months since April 2023. Rasmus Hojlund added a cherry on the cake, and United progressed.
Antony celebrates goal on Instagram
The Brazilian was visibly relieved to find the back of the net for the first time in 23 games this season after failing to produce an attacking return in the first 22.
He took to his Instagram to share a message after finally breaking his drought.
"It’s about believing, working, and NEVER giving up! Happy to wear this shirt on this special day!! Thank you, my Lord!" his post was translated as saying.
The former Ajax star has come under heavy criticism from the fans for his below-average performances since joining the club on Erik ten Hag’s request last summer.
United paid £86 million for the 23-year-old, and so far, he has done nothing to justify the price tag. This has led to many questioning the manager's talent identity and transfer decisions.
Fans troll Antony’s celebrations
Sports Brief also previously reported on fans trolling Antony’s goal celebrations after the Brazilian hit three for his first goal in months against a fourth-tier English club.
The fans called him 'shameless' for celebrating against a League Two side and was told he had 'found his level' after failing to find the back of the net against better teams.
