- DR Congo will face Guinea in the last 8
Egypt goalkeeper Mohamed Abou Gabal 'Gabaski' failed to replicate his heroics from AFCON 2021 after missing a penalty in the shootout defeat to DR Congo.
The National Bank of Egypt shot-stopper is noted for his penalty-saving ability, having singlehandedly sent the seven-time champions to the final in Cameroon.
Gabaski appeared for the shootouts with his famous bottle but failed to make a single save as the Egyptians suffered a round of 16 elimination.
In photos shared on social media, Gabaski's bottle had some inscriptions on it, which usually is the names of the players and the direction of their spot kicks.
Egypt missed two penalties after Mohamed Mostafa and the goalkeeper sent their spot-kicks away with Arthur Masuaku blasting over the bar for DR Congo.
However, the hero of the game was DR Congo's goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi, who majestically sent Gabaski the wrong way for the winning spot-kick.
The Leopards will now face Guinea for a place in the semi-final of the competition in four days.
Earlier, Mohamed Bayo netted a last-gasp goal as the Syli National eliminated Equatorial Guinea, as reported by the BBC.
