FootballAlan Shearer Fears Marcus Rashford Is Wasting His Talent As Manchester United Star Misses FA Cup Tie
- Marcus Rashford was unavailable for Manchester United's FA Cup game against Newport County
- Rashford was spotted partying the night before he informed United that he was too ill to train
- Alan Shearer believes that the England international is wasting his talents with some of his choices
Alan Shearer is disappointed with Marcus Rashford’s actions of late.
The Manchester United striker has been in the headlines of late for all the wrong reasons, and Shearer isn’t impressed.
Speaking out about Rashford’s absence from United’s FA Cup squad to face Newport County due to ‘illness’, Shearer said someone needed to manage the player better, BBC reported.
"He can’t keep doing this, he can’t keep wasting his talent because it’s not right. He needs strong management, someone to get hold of him and tell him there’ll be huge regrets come the end of his career if he continues doing this,” Shearer said.
Why was Rashford unavailable for United’s fixture?
While the official reason for the English star’s absence is illness, there’s more to the matter than meets the eye.
Rashford reported to the club that he was ill prior to training on Friday, January 26, but contradicting reports stated that he was out partying late the night before.
Erik ten Hag addresses Rashford's absence
Before the FA Cup tie, United coach Erik ten Hag touched on the player’s absence, describing it as an internal matter, GOAL reported.
"He reported ill yet in the last few hours yesterday. It's an internal matter. I deal with it. It's an internal matter," he said.
With ten Hag seemingly brushing aside the matter for now, Shearer said something needed to be done to get the player back to his previous best.
"You can’t keep doing it, it needs sorting now. Thirty goals last season, four this season. When I see him play, it looks like he’s got the world on his shoulders so it needs sorting now because he can’t really deal with it,” he added.
