The Super Eagles of Nigeria are through to the quarter-finals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Cameroon in the round of 16.
The three-time champions claimed a 2-0 victory over the Indomitable Lions at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium on Saturday evening.
Nigeria started as the better side in the opening minute and had a goal disallowed for offside in the 13th minute.
Semi Ajayi pounced on a loose ball, which ended in the back of the net, but VAR signalled for the referee to review his call, and it was ruled out for offside.
The Super Eagles finally got the game's first goal in the 36th minute from Ademola Lookman. Victor Osimhen showed a great hunger to press and dispossess Cameroon defender Oumar Gonzalez to set up the former Leicester City forward.
The Super Eagles began the second half the way they ended the first 45 minutes but were dealt with a huge blow after their goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabili, was replaced by Francis Uzoho due to injury.
Nigeria were the closest to getting a goal in the 86th minute, but Ola Aina's strike was blocked by Nouhou Tolo.
The Super Eagles added another goal to cap off a good night, with Lookman hitting the ball past Ondoa after a wonderful cross from Calvin Bassey.
Cameroon were unable to register any shots of target for the entire 90 minutes of play despite the introduction of Vincent Aboubakar late in the game.
