Pitso Mosimane: Former Kaizer Chiefs Star Backs South African Tactician’s AFCON Dream
FootballPitso Mosimane or Rulani Mokwena: Gavin Hunt Names Who Deserves Credit for Sundowns Turnaround
- Pitso Mosimane won practically every possible title during his time with Mamelodi Sundowns
- The tactician led the Brazilians to 5 league titles as well as the CAF Champions League
- Gavin Hunt has credited the coach for his knowledge of local players
The head coach of SuperSport United, Gavin Hunt, has disclosed that Pitso Mosimane should be credited for the turnaround witnessed at Mamelodi Sundowns.
Hunt stated that Mosimane's philosophy was responsible for the improvement of the Brazilians' squad.
Recall that in 2012, the club appointed the tactician, and he led them to all the possible domestic titles in South Africa.
During his time at Sundowns, Mosimane won 5 Premier Soccer League titles, 2 Nedbank Cups, 2 Telcom Knockout titles, 1 CAF Super Cup and 1 CAF Champions League title.
Hunt suggested that the knowledge of local players gave a fair advantage to Pitso.
The SuperSport United boss told TIFA Podcast:
“One thing about Pitso, with all those foreign coaches, he did brilliantly. Because he stood his ground, and he got his way, and he got players in that he wanted.
“But Pitso, he changed everything at Sundowns. He said ‘hey, we don’t need this type of player’. Because they were getting players that didn’t fit.
“They had got good players at the club but he said ‘I want him, him, that type of player’. And they reaped the success of that.
“You’ve got to give Pitso a lot of credit, a lot of credit. He changed [the club] and obviously he said no to somebody there at the hierarchy.”
