Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has picked the manager he thinks is best fit to succeed Jurgen Klopp after he announced he will be leaving the club at the end of the season.
Klopp took charge of the club in September 2015 after Brendan Rodgers was sacked. He was allowed time to develop his squad and won all possible trophies.
The Reds faithfuls highly regard him as he delivered their first Premier League title in 30 years in the 2019/20 season, popularly called the ‘covid trophy’ by rivals.
Names are beginning to ring around the media on who will take over the manager’s seat in the dugout when he finally walks out of the club in the summer.
Carragher names Klopp's successor
British pundit and former Reds Carragher, speaking on Sky Sports as quoted by Mirror UK, heaped praise on Klopp after the news broke of his departure.
“We are losing one of the greatest managers in world football, one of the greatest managers Liverpool have ever had and it is a sad day, no doubt,” he said.
“But in the same breath, we’ve got to be looking forward to the new man coming in, get behind him and support him. Bill Shankly left, Bob Paisley left, Kenny Dalglish left and Liverpool moves on.”
The 2005 UEFA Champions League winner quickly named his former teammate Xabi Alonso as his preferred candidate to take over the vacant position.
“You can’t get away from Xabi Alonso because he’s so respected at Liverpool already for what he did as a player – he’s a Champions League winner, held himself with real class, he’s a World Cup winner,” he added.
