The Egyptian Football Federation has reportedly sacrificed a calf ahead of the knockout stages of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The seven-time champions are winless in three games at the tournament but managed to progress after finishing second in Group B behind Cape Verde.
Egypt will face two-time AFCON winners DR Congo in the round of 16 in San Pedro on Sunday without talismanic forward Mohamed Salah and goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy.
According to reports, the EFA Board shared the meat to the needy in hopes of avoiding further injuries while seeking their first win of the tournament.
The Egyptians are noted for following their Islamic customs, and sacrificing animals at major tournaments is not new when it comes to the Africa Cup of Nations.
The North Africans arrived in San Pedro on Friday as preparations began ahead of the match on Sunday.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Egypt's AFCON campaign has been rocked by injuries with goalkeeper, Mohamed El Shenawy suffering a knock in the final Group A game against Cape Verde.
The Al Ahly goalkeeper was forced off late in the game as the Pharaohs shared the spoils with the group leaders in a thrilling encounter in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
El Shenawy was replaced by Mohamed Abou 'Gabaski' Gabal in the final minute of injury time.
