The thrilling 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has entered its knockout phase, bringing a wave of anticipation to what the continent's biggest football showpiece has on the horizon.

This eagerly awaited encounter is scheduled to take place at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan, where the perennial rivals will once again renew their intense rivalry.

In the lead-up to this pivotal match, a former AFCON champion has offered invaluable advice to the Super Eagles, adding an extra layer of anticipation to this high-stakes encounter.

AFCON winner advises Super Eagles

In a conversation with media outlet Punch, 2013 AFCON winner Brown Ideye emphasised key elements that Jose Peseiro's team must focus on to secure victory.

"They must not underestimate the Cameroonians. Their style of play is highly physical, and they transition quickly. However, the Eagles have demonstrated their ability to defend effectively."

Further expressing some concerns, the 35-year-old stated,

"In the game against Ivory Coast, we saw glimpses, although I believe we could have been more daring. It's crucial to be clinical and capitalise on our chances. We've been creating opportunities, and I hope the goals will start flowing on Saturday."

Highlighting the potential revenge motive for Cameroon, Ideye emphasised the need for the Eagles to be well-prepared.

"The outcome will depend on the team that displays better mental strength and psychological readiness. Both teams have talented players, but what's lacking is cohesive play. I hope that changes in our next game."

The former Super Eagles forward's words align with the sentiments of many fans and stakeholders, who stress the importance of the Eagles leveraging their attacking prowess alongside their impressive defensive cohesion.

While the exact strategies of both teams remain uncertain, one undeniable fact is that they are bound to deliver an exciting spectacle for fans and supporters when they face off.

Guinea Bissau coach tips Nigeria for AFCON glory

Sports Brief in another report stressed that Guinea Bissau manager Baciro Cande has tipped Nigeria for AFCON glory.

The 56-year-old, whose side's AFCON elimination was confirmed following the defeat against the Super Eagles, expressed belief in Nigeria’s ability to win the competition. However, coach Cande provided a condition for the Eagles to fulfil to win the tournament.
